Eyelid Surgery in Auckland

Eyelid surgery is known by different names such as blepharoplasty (in medical term) and an eyelid lift surgery. This surgery is a surgical procedure to remove skin and to add or remove fat from the eyelids. Many people get confuse with the term eyelid lift. There is a misconception related to this term as they think in the procedure (as name suggests) the eyelid is lifted during surgery! This is merely a misconception because the eyelid is not lifted during surgery.

In this procedure, if there is an upper blepharoplasty surgery being performed, surgeon starts the procedure where incisions are made on the skin to allow for removal of skin and fat. Then, a thin stitch is used to bring the skin together.

This is done to allow for a creation of an eyelid crease. Where in lower eyelid surgery, the method can involve skin incisions directly below the lash line! Or it can involve an incision on the inside of the eyelid which is called a transconjunctival approach. This approach allows for access to the eyelid fat without visible incisions.

This helps in making this technique perfect for patients who need fat removed or added. If necessary or required, surgeon can follow this approach which can be combined with laser resurfacing of the eyelid skin to reduce lines and wrinkles.

Let’s understand why people need to go under eyelid surgery. There can be two reasons for people to go under this type of surgical procedures. Reasons can be, either cosmetic reason or because of trouble in vision. If a person has upper eyelid excess skin and fat; it can create a heavy looking eyelid, aged appearance, puffiness, and sometimes block vision. So this procedure is performed by expert surgeons to remove excess skin and fat and can improve vision. A type of eyelid lift surgery is known as double eyelid surgery.

It is performed to create an upper eyelid crease. And lower blepharoplasty is performed to remove excess skin, reduce wrinkles. And it is performed to improve the shape of the lower eyelid by removing skin and fat. This procedure, sometimes include, tightening the eyelid in order to correct droopiness or sagging. And, if required adding fat is done to improve a hollowed appearance. In Auckland, expert surgeons offer eyelid surgery procedures to people in need.
